ZIMBABWE

The real home of African adventure!

Forget its despotic past and much vaunted economic woes, because Zimbabwe is without a doubt one of the best safari destinations in Southern Africa. So say all of us! We love "Zim" and its amazing people... We love its gob-smacking natural beauty and off-the-chart game viewing... And we absolutely adore its adventurous spirit.

Talking of adventure, Zim is home to what's widely regarded as the adventure capital of Africa - Victoria Falls. The quaint and vibrant little town that grew up beside the natural wonder of the same name is now home to more adrenaline-fuelled activities than you can shake a stick at.

Whether it's throwing yourself off a high bridge with a piece of elastic attached, going for the human-in-a-washing-machine thrill of white water rafting or jetting down the Zambezi on what feels like a rocket-fired boat, your hair is going to be blown back. Properly.

Thrills aside, Zimbabwe is home to superlative national parks and reserves, diverse wildlife, a rich cultural heritage and some of the most impressive scenery on the sub-continent, not to mention truly eye-popping and fabulously pampering lodges and camps.

Best Times To Visit

Things To Do

  • Canoe Mana Pools

Up in the north of the country, on the border with neighbouring Zambia, the Zambezi River takes a bit of a break on its journey to the Indian Ocean, slowing down to create a lush wetland banked by wide floodplains. This is Mana Pools National Park, where you can make the river your playground and get all active and sporty on a canoe! It's the best way to explore the riverbanks and work off all the safari food!

  • Adventure aplenty in Victoria Falls

Zipline across gaping chasms, plunge headlong towards the Zambezi on the end of a bungee, shoot the rapids on a rubber boat and reach terminal velocity attached to a rope... These are the things that soiled underwear is made of, that get the heart pumping and the head spinning. You'll find them all in Victoria Falls, and more!

  • Tiger fishing on Lake Kariba

Take on the striped water dog on the largest man-made lake in the world. No, we're not smoking socks because tiger fishing on Lake Kariba is a thing. And an exciting thing at that! The tiger fish is legendary, thanks to its size when fully grown, its fearsome teeth and the incredible fight it puts up when hooked on the end of a fishing rod. Land it, if you can, and then release it back to fight another day. Epic!

  • Experience the wilderness of Gonarezhou

Its name means "place of the elephant" and it's one of the most celebrated of Zimbabwe's national parks. Pronounced "gone-are-a-zoo" this is a wilderness on steroids - rugged, remote and ravishing in every way. It's where you'll find the dramatic Chilojo Cliffs - 13km of sandstone ramparts that tower over the Runde River - and a staggering amount of wildlife, from said elephants in huge numbers to the endangered painted wolf (African wild dog). Don't miss it!

  • Explore Hwange on foot

It's said that walking in the wilderness connects you directly with Mother Nature... If that's true, then Mother Nature most definitely lives in Hwange National Park, and a walking safari there will absolutely put you toe-to-toe with her, literally and metaphorically speaking! Exploring Zimbabwe's largest national park on foot is highly recommended. Give our regards to Mum as you go!
